I waited very impatiently for this book. I have mentioned it multiple times on this blog, both here and here.  I have read all three books now, and I am glad that I did. It’s nice to read a series and not end it wondering why you started in the first place.  

One of the greatest parts about the series is the continuations.  Like ripples in water, these characters will be carried forawrd in a way that few characters can.  You see, this series is a prequel of sorts to another series.  While completely separate from the other Shadowhunter books, this series is depicting what came before.  Not only do these books tell a great story; not only do they shed light on a series I was already in the middle of; these books will influence the conclusion of the Shadowhunters books.  How nerdy cool is that?!

As for the story of this book, I really enjoyed it.  At times it did feel a little drawn out, but when you are wrapping up so many storylines, that is to be expected.  And the way the stories were concluded…

The main driver of these books is the love story.  Tessa fell for Will, who couldn’t love her.  She then fell for Jem, Will’s soul mate in battle.  When Will discovered that he could love Tessa without hurting her, he was too late: she was engaged to Jem, who was dying. The final book tells the story of unrequited love, but also of discovered love – the characters discover love for each other they didn’t know existed.  I was really impressed by the way author developed the story, let it grow, but didn’t allow it to be constrained by the love triangle.  The ending, which I won’t ruin, was beautiful.  A perfect ending to a nearly perfect series.
