Barrington flees his tyrannical uncle for the open seas where he becomes a
ruthless pirate who turns vampire.
Captured and sentence to hang, a fate he must
avoid to keep his vampire self hidden, a reprieve comes if he rescues Lady
Lavinia Sinclair from the French pirates and returns her to her betrothed in
England.
Alexander falls for the woman who makes him feel
human and alive, but can he really have her without exposing what he is – a
thief, the undead? The damned? Refusing to taint her innocence any further, he
erases her memory of him and vanquishes into the night but can he really exist
without her?
Check out What the Author has to say about authors and writing!!!
I have
heard said that no sane individually would sit at a computer and type a 100,000-word
story. So are authors sane? Yes and no. How do we explain to the normal working
joe that we have these voices in our heads that act out a story and demand that
we write it down for the world to see? Most people look at you and grin, though
they have no idea what you’re talking about.

What makes
us start writing? Probably books. Writers are readers. Many times we’ve read
enough books that we start thinking “wow, I would have …” to the story –
changed the ending, whatever and next thing you know, we’re writing.

I’m a
historian. Love the past. So most of the romance books I love are historical.
What I love reading are the storylines that do not follow the standard formula.
I like them with a twist, an unexpected action or character flaw. And my favorite
stories are those that make me want to go and want to research more about that
period or that episode. Did it really happen that way? It is that background
that had me writing Her Eternal Rogue.

I loved
Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp. Oh so nice…made me want to write a
pirate story. But I also like True Blood, Vampire Diaries, even Twilight – the
lure of vampires. So I put the two together for this story. But my degrees are
in history so I needed to make sure this was as accurate as possible. I know, I
know – it’s fiction. What does it matter? To me, it matters a lot.

Researching
pirates – a lot of material is out there. The bulk appears to be on the height
of piracy, about 150+ years prior to my novel. Back to the days of Black Beard
and his like. But I’ve been crazy about the Regency period, the c. 1815 England
and I’ve read a ton of books on that period so, set to make this 1801, I looked
further. Pirates have been around for centuries and we’re still plagued by them
today. Okay.

But what about
vampires? I’ve read Bram Stoker’s Dracula and know the drill – they can’t be in
sunlight, have to be staked, etc. Now Twilight twisted it with them sparkling
in the sun which is abnormal so they stay in and never sleep. In Vampire
Diaries, they wear magical rings. Stoker set the rules these authors broke.
What was really the story? Searching through research books, vampires were out
in the daylight and could be reflected in mirrors, etc. They blended with the
living too easily, which scared people. That made me excited – I could
justifiably make Alexander however I wanted.

typed my 100+k worded story. And I loved every second of doing so. ~J

Great post, Gina. One of the things I love about writers' conferences is that I'm around a bunch of people who think like me. Tweeted and shared.

Thank you Ella!

I love being able to twist stories and make them my own. I don't know anyone who hears the voices in their head that forces them to write…except authors. We are a unique bunch!
