Goodreads Synopsis
An emotionally charged story of music, abuse
and, ultimately, hope.
and, ultimately, hope.
Beck hates his life. He hates his violent
mother. He hates his home. Most of all, he hates the piano that his mother
forces him to play hour after hour, day after day. He will never play as she
did before illness ended her career and left her bitter and broken. But Beck is
too scared to stand up to his mother, and tell her his true passion, which is
composing his own music – because the least suggestion of rebellion on his part
ends in violence.

When Beck meets August, a girl full of life,
energy and laughter, love begins to awaken within him and he glimpses a way to
escape his painful existence. But dare he reach for it?

My Thoughts…
This is a truly heartbreaking story of fear and bravery, abuse and
adoration, despair and hope. On the
surface, it can appear to be the journey of one boy’s self-discovery in the
face of terrible circumstances. While it
most definitely is that, A Thousand
Perfect Notes is also an example of the destructive and healing power of
love.

C.G. Drew takes on the violence of abuse through a child’s
eyes. Showing, in a very creative way,
the dynamics of an abuser and a victim.
How an abuser can be motivated to violence for many reasons, just as there
can be many things that motivate the abused to endure. This is a beautiful
coming of age story.

Beck is a teenager who has no idea how to be a teenager. He has had the responsibilities of an adult
yet is mostly still a child. Meanwhile,
he is constantly abused by an overbearing mother. After meeting August, he is like scorched
earth during a flood. He literally
rejects the love he has craved for so long because he is incapable of accepting
it. It’s heart wrenching and wonderful
to watch him learn to believe in goodness.

August is spectacular. She’s
sarcastic and spunky, yet intuitive and empathetic. I love her. She has her quirks, but is determined and
exactly what Beck needs. I just love
her.

You really will! She was very funny and the antithesis of Beck in the most perfect way. Please let me know what you think when you read it!!!
