I devour books like there’s no
tomorrow, and I love to write what I read. The genres I enjoy reading include
romantic suspense, thrillers, historical exotic family drama/coming of age
novels, and non-fiction books.
If I’m reading a non-fiction book,
I like to read in a public place that is quiet as it requires more
concentration to read non-fiction than a fiction book. For example, I like to
read at times during my lunch break at work at the local park, sitting on a
bench with the warm sunlight caressing my face. I’ll only read outside in the
spring and summer season as I enjoy the sunlight and cannot brave the cold
during winter. One time, a flock of seagulls perched close by, and crows stood
so close that I had to move for fear they were going to peck me. The seagulls
were attracted by my recently bought fish and chips, but the park naturally
attracts the crows. Whatever happens, I still enjoy my book.

I enjoy reading in a coffee shop
that is not too busy if I’m out on my own. For example, I love Brunetti’s hot
chocolate or Lindt’s hot chocolate in
Melbourne as it gives me that comforting feeling of security and joy. A hot
drink reminds me of all the times I was nurtured by my Italian mother who
always made sure I never got thirsty or hungry, even if she overfed me. Coming
from an Italian background and having written my novels from The Italian Family
Series, I enjoy reading and writing in this Italian historical fiction family genre
with a long mug of hot chocolate and a marshmallow.

Another favourite public place to
read is at my local library. As other people are reading and searching for
books, it is the right atmosphere with the right amount of quiet to be reading
a book that I plan to borrow or am considering borrowing. Although now I don’t
borrow that many books as I tend to buy print books or order books digitally.

My recent release, A Life By Design from The Italian Family
Series needs to be read on Lygon Street as it’s filled with a lot of Italians
plus other cultures. The street makes you feel like you’re back in Italy. I savour
my reading time on Lygon Street in Carlton, Melbourne as you have a myriad of
cafes and restaurant owners shouting at the top of their voices for you to come
in and try their Italian food. You have ice-cream or gelati. You have a range
of pizza shops with the excitement and vitality of the Melbourne-Italian crowd
that gives you that Italian cultural feel.

Generally speaking, I also love to
read in the privacy of my own home where it can be quiet and solitary, but at
times a public place takes you out of that constricted environment of your
home. You can be in nature or you can be in a building that gives you that
excitement and vitality of the crowd. I especially relate to the culture of the
Italian community on Lygon Street in Melbourne, but also feel the buzz from my
other favourite public places.
