~Book Blurb~
In Alaska, it’s always a white Christmas—but the sparks flying between two reunited friends could turn it red-hot…
If there’s one gift Erika Sheraton does not want for Christmas, it’s a vacation. Ordered to take time off, the workaholic surgeon reluctantly trades in her scrubs for a ski suit and heads to Wild River, Alaska. Her friend Cassie owns a tour company that offers adventures to fit every visitor. But nothing compares to the adrenaline rush Erika feels on being reunited with Cassie’s brother, Reed Reynolds.
Gone is the buttoned-up girl Reed remembers. His sister’s best friend has blossomed into a strong, skilled, confident woman. She’s exactly what his search-and-rescue team needs—and everything he didn’t know he craved. The gulf between his life in Wild River and her big-city career is wide. But it’s no match for a desire powerful enough to melt two stubborn hearts…

~My Thoughts~
I’m going to start with some honesty here: I did not like Erika Sheraton at the beginning of An Alaskan Christmas. For about the first 25%, I wanted to trip her into a puddle so that her socks got wet and messed up her whole day. If you don’t think that’s very mean, then you’ve never had wet socks in your shoes. It’s cold, it’s gross, it’s uncomfortable, and there is nothing you can do unless you go home and change your socks. So basically, it’s a giant pain in the butt, which pretty much sums up my feelings about Erika.
I was very skeptical that I could get into the romance of this book given my initial impression of its heroine. Who wants to root for a jerk to find true love? I know way too many good people furtively swiping their lives away to spend my time hoping a girl with a stick up her… Well you get the picture.
But once she’s in Alaska for a while (not immediately) she begins to unwind. You can almost feel Erika relax as other people, mainly Reed, and other priorities begin to influence her life. Then we get to learn a little bit about what makes her so up tight and she grew on me. You know who also grew on me? Reed.
Yep, I had no problems liking Reed. He’s like all of the romance heroes rolled into one guy. He’s a protective brother, loving son, an actual hero, hardworking bartender, compassionate friend, and hot. Really, really hot. It’s borderline too much, but Jennifer Snow toes that line very well and I never felt like she went too far with his loveliness. Honestly, it counter balanced how I felt about Erika nicely.
The best character int he whole book was the dog. I have never laughed out loud when a dog falls asleep, but a narcoleptic husky puppy was just the trick.
The story itself was gripping and sweet. I loved how the main characters didn’t immediately make life changing decisions based on the false obstacle of her returning to work. A lot of books makes this an insurmountable deadline, when in reality, she lives not that far away and phones do exist.
This is another great holiday read, though not overwhelmingly focused on the holly jolly magic of Christmas. So instead of a peppermint mocha, I would suggest curling up with a glass of red wine in front of the fire and cracking the spine of this fast and fun Christmas romance.
