My Thoughts
I. have been trying to find more STEM emphasizing children’s books for my young kids (3 & 6). Especially for my 3 year old daughter, because as terrible as it sounds, my son won’t be pushed out of math and science the way she will be. Obviously, I read everything to both of them, but I want to make sure she isn’t solely focused on princesses and Barbie dolls.
When I got the chance to read Explore the World of Chemistry I jumped at it, because she is super into her ABC’s right now. So when I read her the ABCs based on Chemistry terms, I could se her curiosity lighting up.
This book did what every parent hopes every book will do, lead to questions, conversations, and an interest in learning more.
I will admit that I was a little inadequate at explaining, “what is DNA?” to a three year old, but I gave it my best shot. It was a great refresher for mom. i haven’t engaged in these terms since high school Chemistry and that was *cough cough* years ago. It was fun and made me glad I have google at my fingertips these days.
Special shout out to my iphone for keeping up the belief that mom knows everything.
The illustrations reminded me of some of the animated films that my kids are watching these days, so that means they seemed not only familiar but engaging. Great representation among the kids, too.
Thanks so much to Sarah Sommer and iRead Book Tours for my copy of Explore the World of Chemistry in exchange for an honest review.
