What if Lady Anne Darcy was alive to meet Elizabeth Bennet?
A sweeping tale of tragedy, devotion, and betrayal—spanning over 25 years and two generations—this family saga explores the life Fitzwilliam Darcy would have had if his mother had not died young.
An up-close view of the Darcys’ marriage and Fitzwilliam’s childhood … a retelling of the circumstances that shaped the man we have come to love … a reimagining of the friendships and relationships that formed each iconic character … a tale of love, loss, heartbreak, and triumph—that is Sons of Pemberley.
Sons of Pemberley REVIEW
As a quick reminder, here is my rating structure:
- 1 star: Did not finish
- 2 Stars: Finished but I do not recommend
- 3 Stars: Liked but could use some improvements
- 4 Stars: Loved this book!
- 5 Stars: Rare. The unput-down-able, binge read obsession.
My star ratings are also based also genre based. I compare all books with books of the same genre. While I would love to believe that my love of books in general transcends all bias, there are genres I prefer over others.
I’m human.
Example: If I read a mystery novel and think it deserves a 5-star rating, then I have compared it to other mystery books, and determined it to be one of my absolute favorites. The unputdownable mystery.
This will hopefully keep me from comparing Outlander, a personal obsession of mine, with the experience of reading The Hate You Give. Both 5 star books for me, but completely and totally different. I couldn’t even try to rate them against each other, so I don’t. Makes my life easier. 🙂
My Thoughts About Sons of Pemberley
Given my obsession with all things Pride & Prejudice, let’s just say it didn’t take much to get me to read Sons of Pemberley. Really, it just took the word Pemberley and I was in.
More time with Fitzwilliam Darcy? Yes, please.
In this reimagining, we get to actually focus in on Darcy, his family, and his backstory. It’s refreshing to not read from only Elizabeth’s point of view. I would imagine since the source material is written from her perspective, it would be easier to write with as Elizabeth.
Reading what could have been Darcy’s story really let my imagination take flight. I already knew I loved these characters, but getting to do a deep dive into the Darcy family really let me sink even further into the beauty of Pride & Prejudice.
Sons of Pemberley can be described perfectly as a family saga, as it reaches deeply into the roots of the Darcy family tree, with all its drama, to show us how such a man as Fitzwilliam could come about.
I didn’t think I could love the man any more, but Elizabeth Adams made it happen.
Conclusion
Austen fans should just go get this book immediately.
