Lady Audley's Secret (Mary Elizabeth Braddon), White Noise (Don DeLillo), Wise Blood (Flannery O'Connor), and if you like YA the whole Wrinkle in Time series (usually called the Time Quintet), and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Ransom Riggs). The last one has a trailer on youtube
