City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
From the Publisher…
The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She’s training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most importantly of all—she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering Shadowhunters, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second, bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her. His mother just found out that he’s a vampire and now he’s homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side—along with the power of the curse that’s wrecking his life. And they’re willing to do anything to get what they want. Not to mention that he’s dating two beautiful, dangerous girls—neither of whom knows about the other one.
When Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.
From Me…
“It’s fascinating. You know all these words, and they’re all English, but when you string them together into sentences, they just don’t make any sense.”
― Cassandra Clare, City of Fallen Angels
This is how I felt about this book. I enjoyed it only because I enjoy the chracters, but honestly, this book was pointless. I started the book feeling so excited, since Jace and Clary were finally going to be together. Finally, the angst would be over and we can enjoy a blooming relationship…NOT!
The book starts out well enough, with Clary training to be a Shadowhunter, which is good because she throws herself in so many fights that having some training might keep others from getting hurt. Jace is training her, and they definitely are enjoying their time together, until… BAM!!! I was thrown back into the first three books. I wasn’t sure what happened at first. Did I pick up the wrong book? Did I misunderstand the summary of this book? No, this is the right book, but shouldn’t we get a different plot?
Jace and Clary want to be together, but can’t be together, then struggle to be together in moments. *sighs* Then Simon bumbles through the book, tortured and confused. Then a battle where Clary has to be rescued and everyone almost sacrafices themselves to save her. But everyone is ok and forgets the danger they could be in, and tragedy strikes.
Honestly, this book could have been skipped, and the ending added to book five. That way, we find out that Sebastian is alive and then Jace is stolen. That could have been Chapter one of City of Lost Souls. I will say I did enjoy the people and some of the funny comments between Jace and Simon. Speaking of funny, I saw this cartoon online, and it made me laugh, because this is how I felt having finished this book.
You should read City of Fallen Angels, if only to know the details for City of Lost Souls, but I won’t judge anyone who just reads a synopsis of this book and then moves on. In celebration for having finished all 5 books by Ms. Clare, I am giving away a new, paperback copy of City of Bones, enter below!

I feel the same way. It was just a filler book, more or less. Sad, since I am such a huge fan of Clare.
