Helene Aquilla, the
Blood Shrike, is desperate to protect her sister’s life and the lives of
everyone in the Empire. But she knows that danger lurks on all sides: Emperor
Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable and violent while
Keris Veturia, the ruthless Commandant, capitalizes on the Emperor’s volatility
to grow her own power – regardless of the carnage she leaves in her path.

My Thoughts…
What.
Just. Happened?
Just. Happened?
This
will be short, because I am really scared I will spoil something, but let me just
say, I am shook.

If
you haven’t decided yet, go get these books.
Seriously, 5 stars for all three books in the series is unprecedented in
my world. I am a wreck, have all the
feels, and need emotional support.

And
there are more books coming… I may need a mental/emotional retreat to prepare
for #4.

The Characters…
I’ve written about the core
characters in my Reviews of books 1 & 2.
With the addition of a very important character in this book (eeek,
avoiding spoilers is sooooo hard), Laia is forced to face so much. Elias undergoes a metamorphosis. The characters continue to grow at an
astounding rate.

Audiobook Review…
With the addition of a
narrator, the characters became even more colorful. The books continue to come to life with these
narrators.

Memorable Lines…
“Curse this world for
what it does to the mothers, for what it does to the daughters. Curse it for
making us strong through loss and pain, our hearts torn from our chests again
and again. Curse it for forcing us to endure.”

The audio is so good in this series, and I really think it keeps getting better. Sometimes it sounds like there are even more narrators.
