Shelf Space Updates
Every week I like to take a look back and see what books I have
read, which books I have added to my TBR (to-be read) pile, and which books I
have tossed, i.e. decided I will unfortunately not have enough time in this
life to read. You’ll notice that this
last section will not appear very often, for two very important reasons. I LOATHE getting rid of books and absolutely
hate admitting that I can’t read them all.

After everything that the citizens of Beartown have gone through,
they are struck yet another blow when they hear that their beloved local hockey

that all the former Beartown players, who now play for a rival team in Hed,
take in that fact. Amidst the mounting tension between the two rivals, a
surprising newcomer is handpicked to be Beartown’s new hockey coach.

grows more and more acute.

I wish this list was exclusive, but I add so many books that would
be impossible. So, these are the ones I
added this week that I am most excited about.

The Library Book
On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los
Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had
been cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual false alarm.
As one fireman recounted later, “Once that first stack got going, it was
Goodbye, Charlie.” The fire was disastrous: It reached 2,000 degrees and burned
for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed
400,000 books and damaged 700,000 more. Investigators descended on the scene,
but over thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone purposefully set
fire to the library—and if so, who?

None this week, I have stayed strong and optimistic; however, my
TBR pile grew more than my read pile, so I am obviously losing this battle.
