Shelf Space Updates
Every week I like to take a look back and see what books I have
read, which books I have added to my TBR (to-be read) pile, and which books I
have tossed, i.e. decided I will unfortunately not have enough time in this
life to read. You’ll notice that this
last section will not appear very often, for two very important reasons. I LOATHE getting rid of books and absolutely
hate admitting that I can’t read them all.

At first, Alaska seems to be the answer to their prayers. In a
wild, remote corner of the state, they find a fiercely independent community of
strong men and even stronger women. The long, sunlit days and the generosity of
the locals make up for the Allbrights’ lack of preparation and dwindling
resources.

murder…

At first, the death of William Baldwine, the head of the Bradford
family, was ruled a suicide. But then his eldest son and sworn enemy, Edward,
came forward and confessed to what was, in fact, a murder. Now in police
custody, Edward mourns not the disintegration of his family or his loss of
freedom . . . but the woman he left behind. His love, Sutton Smythe, is the
only person he has ever truly cared about, but as she is the CEO of the
Bradford Bourbon Company’s biggest competitor, any relationship between them is
impossible. And then there’s the reality of the jail time that Edward is
facing.

I wish this list was exclusive, but I add so many books that would
be impossible. So, these are the ones I

legal minds of our time; a book fifteen years in work, written with the
cooperation of Ruth Bader Ginsburg herself and based on many interviews with
the justice, her husband, her children, her friends, and her associates.
In this large, comprehensive, revelatory biography, Jane De Hart
explores the central experiences that crucially shaped Ginsburg’s passion for
justice, her advocacy for gender equality, her meticulous jurisprudence: her
desire to make We the People more united and our union more perfect. At the
heart of her story and abiding beliefs–her Jewish background. Tikkun olam, the
Hebrew injunction to “repair the world,” with its profound meaning
for a young girl who grew up during the Holocaust and World War II. We see the
influence of her mother, Celia Amster Bader, whose intellect inspired her
daughter’s feminism, insisting that Ruth become independent, as she witnessed
her mother coping with terminal cervical cancer (Celia died the day before
Ruth, at seventeen, graduated from high school).

A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble

Get in quick, get out quicker.
These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent
dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara.
She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market
selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own
quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from
the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region:

None this week, I have stayed strong and optimistic; however, my
TBR pile grew more than my read pile, so I am obviously losing this battle.
