In the wake of a devastating
teen pregnancy that left her childless and heartbroken, Vashti Alcindor left
Catalina Cove, Louisiana, with no plans to return. Now, over a decade later,
Vashti reluctantly finds herself back in her hometown after inheriting her
aunt’s B and B. Her homecoming gets off to a rocky start when the new sheriff,
Sawyer Grisham, pulls her over for speeding, and things go downhill from there.

The B and B, a place she’d
always found refuge in when it seemed like the whole world was against her, has
fallen into disrepair. When a surprising benefactor encourages Vashti to reopen
the B and B, Vashti embraces a fresh start, and soon old hurts begin to fade as
she makes new memories with the town—and its handsome sheriff…

But some pasts are too big to
escape, and when a bombshell of a secret changes everything she thought was
true, Vashti is left reeling. With Sawyer and his teenage daughter determined
to see her through the storm, though, she’s learning family isn’t always a
matter of blood—sometimes it’s a matter of heart.

My Thoughts…
This is a likeable story about a woman who
overcomes a difficult past. Instead of
continuing to run from her pain, she returns to Catalina Cove to face all of
the people who had betrayed her, only to find freedom in her new home.

I really liked Vashti, her story, and her
strength, but I never fully connected with her.
I say that, but I can’t pinpoint a reason. Other reviewers are not having this problem,
so it may have been my mood. For the
sake of an honest review, I am mentioning it, but I’m not sure how much it
should impact your decision to read this book.
I would love to hear what others thought about Vashti.

I would love to hear what others thought about Vashti.
There were times where the plot meandered a bit,
and the ending felt a little rushed.
However, overall this was so much fun to read. Almost like a soap opera, in a very good
way. Genuine escapism, filled with
irresistible love and unimaginable pain.
Can I also mention, I can’t wait to read the next books? Brenda Jackson did a brilliant job of setting
up the series and getting me invested in all of the characters, not just Vashti
and Sawyer. Drama is coming…

My favorite part of a romance is the love story,
but vying for my affection is always any renovation or makeover. My imagination just runs wild with
possibilities while trying to follow the descriptions in the book, but
sometimes I get carried away…

Thanks Tessa!!! Yes, I didn't see too many people mentioning having any issues, but I always like to be honest, considering that's why I was asked to read the book in the first place. Thanks so much for reading my review!
