Goodreads Synopsis
Tradition holds that Jane Austen lived a prim and proper life
as a single woman. But what if she wed a man as passionate and intelligent as she—and
the marriage remained secret for 200 years?

Go with Jane Austen as this
thinking woman, and sensitive soul, seizes the opportunity for meaningful love
with a man who inspires her and understands her independent spirit—the one man
worthy of her mind, heart, and soul.

My Thoughts…
I have to admit to being a most ardent fan of
Jane Austen. See what I did there? If
you are an admirer of Miss Austen, I’m pretty sure you understand the
reference. But back to the task at hand. I admit to my slight obsession so that you
can understand why I was immediately drawn to this book. It always seemed so unfair to me that the
woman who wrote some of my favorite love stories spent her life alone. With this novel, I get to imagine a different
life for Miss Austen, and isn’t the best part of historical fiction? That the author’s imagination dictates the
unknown within history.

In this alternate reality, we are gifted with
Jane Austen’s own romance. For these
pages, she gets to be the heroine who finds herself caught between her heart
and her head. One of the most
interesting aspects of this book was the way in which a relationship can
develop over letters and distance. I
really appreciated this perspective, as current day relationships seem to
depend upon immediate access.

The plot of this book moved very smoothly, even
though at moments you could tell events were happening as the foundation of a
series. The characters were well rounded
and explored as deeply as was necessary.
Especially, Jane, who was a fully developed character in her own right,
and not a carbon copy of any of her famous characters.

I really can’t wait to read Vol. II.
