They tell me the country looked different back
then.
then.
They talk of open borders and flowing rivers.
They say the world was green.
But drought swept across the globe and the United
States of the past disappeared under a burning sky.
States of the past disappeared under a burning sky.
Enora Byrnes lives in the aftermath, a barren
world where water has become the global currency. In a life dominated by duty
to family and community, Enora is offered a role within an entity that controls
everything from water credits to borders. But it becomes clear that not all is
as it seems. From the wasted confines of her small town to the bowels of a
hidden city, Enora will uncover buried secrets that hide an unthinkable
reality.

My Thoughts…
This is a particularly exciting review for me to
write because of the The Ultimate Blog Tour.

Anyway, After
the Green Withered was selected as the first book on the tour, and I couldn’t
be more excited to review this book. This
is an award winning indie book by Kristin Ward.
A dystopian novel based on an entirely original concept that could all
too easily be real.

The best part of this book was the reality. This is fiction set in the future that could
easily come true. Some of the situations
depicted were extremely vivid for me.
Specifically, Kristin Ward showed a new type of classroom. The students are taught solely through
screens and headphones, because the governing body decided that teachers were a
liability. In essence, there was no way
to be 100% percent certain what a teacher will say or do. So, the answer is… remove the teachers. No one can tell me that in today’s world,
2019, this is impossible to imagine. It’s
stark images like this that compels After
the Green Withered into a fantastic read.

The only reason this book received four stars
instead of five was the beginning. Every
book needs to build a world. This book
definitely builds a vivid and dynamic world, but the beginning of the book
seems as if the world is being explained to the reader instead of shown. I felt that if the plot of the story started
and we were shown the details of the new world through Enora.

If I were you, reading this, I would google After the Green Withered and buy it
immediatey. You will want to be at the
beginning of this amazing series and watch it develop. I’ve got some serious Hunger Games vibes.
