~My Thoughts~
I feels like women are really having a moment right now, but to quote Lin Manuel’s Hamilton, it “is not a moment, it’s a movement.” Except in this case, it’s where all of the hungry sisters with something to prove went.
National Geographic has put together another stunning and powerful book of pictures. Each chapter is titled perfectly, as the reader is moved to each section’s emotion brilliantly. I found myself laughing out loud during the chapter called Joy and inspired by the chapter named Grit.
This collection provides a unique perspective on history by displaying herstory in raw and vivid detail, in a way only photographs can. You get the privilege of seeing a split second in the lives of these women, but the photos evoke much more than a mere sliver of their stories. The power of these pictures is in the resonating quality. The way they linger inside your brain until you begin to imagine the things that came before and after they were taken.
Unlike most books that I read, I will be sitting these National Geographic books out for everyone to see.
