Review
As a quick reminder, here is my rating structure:
- 1 star: Did not finish
- 2 Stars: Finished but I do not recommend
- 3 Stars: Liked but could use some improvements
- 4 Stars: Loved this book!
- 5 Stars: Rare. The unput-down-able, binge read obsession.
My star ratings are also based also genre based. I compare all books with books of the same genre. While I would love to believe that my love of books in general transcends all bias, there are genres I prefer over others.
I’m human.
Example: If I read a mystery novel and think it deserves a 5-star rating, then I have compared it to other mystery books, and determined it to be one of my absolute favorites. The unputdownable mystery.
This will hopefully keep me from comparing Outlander, a personal obsession of mine, with the experience of reading The Hate You Give. Both 5 star books for me, but completely and totally different. I couldn’t even try to rate them against each other, so I don’t. Makes my life easier. 🙂
My Thoughts about Under a Sicilian Sky
I have to ask this question, did the author and publisher of Under a Sicilian Sky have a debate on the title?? To include the ‘e’ on the end of the word ‘Sky’ or not? Because, there is a part of me, that Scotland loving, Jamie Fraser obsessed bit of me that wanted that ‘e’ just to bring Scotland into the book’s title.
Sorry for the divergence, but I kept having this repetitive thought while reading, and what’s the point of having a blog if I can’t share my thoughts? lol
Anyway, I want to make sure to talk about more than just the title of this book. Because it’s so very good. Every time I thought it was going to become just another contemporary romance, something happened. A twist would come and off we would go, much like the journey from New York to Sicily to Scotland.
With moments of mystery and even a little suspense, this is a fun, quirky, almost genre blending romance. The characters were outstanding, though I had my moments with our heroine, Ruby. I genuinely enjoyed her personality, but every once in a while she would jump to conclusions with the people she should be trusting most and naively trusting the people she should be questioning. Then again, given the intense stress she was under, who knows what kind of decisions one could make.
This is a perfect summer/beach read that will whisk you away to distant shores, even if you can only travel as far as your nearest comfy chair.
~About the Author~
“Writing has always been my passion.”
Lisa is a happily married mum of one with two energetic dogs who make cameo appearances in some of her books. She loves writing and creating new characters and now has the pleasure of writing almost full time.
In 2012 she relocated, with her family, from England to their favourite place in the world: Scotland, and they’re now happily ensconced in village life. The stunning country she now calls home was the inspiration for her writing career, and so it’s only fitting that it features in all of her books.
Writing has always been something she’s enjoyed, although in the past it has centered on poetry and song lyrics; some of which appear in her stories. But to now be a published author with Boldwood Books is a real dream come true.
Lisa is qualified as an editor and proofreader to distinction level through the College of Media and Publishing.
