Cornish charm and a Tennessee twist – the perfect pair?
Nessa Vivian is determined to keep her parents’ business afloat, but Pear Tree Farm near the backwater Cornish village of Polgarth didn’t do well as farm, and it’s not faring much better as a camp site. Maybe it’s due to Nessa’s habit of taking in troubled runaways, like ex-soldier Crispin, for next to nothing. Or perhaps her highly-strung sister Lowena is right – caravans named after Beatles’ songs and homegrown pears are not enough to turn the farm into a tourist haven.
Then another troubled runaway turns up, posing the greatest threat yet. Ex-musician Ward Spencer from Tennessee is certainly intriguing, but could his plans to put nearby Tregereth House on the map mean Pear Tree Farm is finished – or does his arrival signal a second lease of life, and not just for Nessa’s business?
A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm Review
As a quick reminder, here is my rating structure:
- 1 star: Did not finish
- 2 Stars: Finished but I do not recommend
- 3 Stars: Liked but could use some improvements
- 4 Stars: Loved this book!
- 5 Stars: Rare. The unput-down-able, binge read obsession.
My star ratings are also based also genre based. I compare all books with books of the same genre. While I would love to believe that my love of books in general transcends all bias, there are genres I prefer over others.
I’m human.
Example: If I read a mystery novel and think it deserves a 5-star rating, then I have compared it to other mystery books, and determined it to be one of my absolute favorites. The unputdownable mystery.
This will hopefully keep me from comparing Outlander, a personal obsession of mine, with the experience of reading The Hate You Give. Both 5 star books for me, but completely and totally different. I couldn’t even try to rate them against each other, so I don’t. Makes my life easier. 🙂
My Thoughts
A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm is such a cute novel.
Fair warning, there is a bit of instalove in this one. Not that the main characters fall in love at the beginning, but rather, they fall into intense feelings. While Nessa is a “root-for-able” heroine she does seem to react pretty strongly to Ward’s intention to build up a similar business near hers. I’m not sure if this is the normal response to this situation, but it was giving me small “You’ve Got Mail” vibes, and I’m always here for that.
The side characters and their stories really elevate A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm from a simple romcom to an intriguing novel. The story is often propelled by these supporting stories making the parts with the main couple shine even brighter. Plus, these stories gave the book such heart and depth that I honestly don’t know how a reader can walk away without liking at least some part of it.
With vivid descriptions of an idyllic Cornish setting, Angela Britnell’s latest adventure will take you on a charming journey.
Conclusion
If you’re a fan of cute romances, beautiful settings, and a bit of drama then A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm is the perfect book for you.
